Can I use my own or a family member's Tesla referral code?
Your own: no. A family member's: check the terms first. Referral programs exist to reward bringing in someone new, so self-referrals are excluded.
Using your own code
You can't apply your own referral to your own order. That includes ordering a second car under the same account. Rewards for repeat purchases, where they exist, come through a different route and not from referring yourself.
A spouse, partner or relative's code
This is a grey area, and the answer depends on how the accounts are set up:
- Shared account: if you'd be ordering from the same account the code belongs to, it's a self-referral and won't count.
- Separate accounts, same household: program terms may treat a household as one buyer. Read the current terms before relying on it.
- Separate households: a relative who lives elsewhere is generally treated like any other owner.
If a referral is later judged ineligible, the reward can be withdrawn after delivery. It's better to check the terms now than to count on a credit that's reversed.
Where to check
The manufacturer's referral program page links to the full terms. Look for the sections on eligibility and on who can't be referred.
